MOVIE REVIEWS

Sinister Review

So last night i had the chance to go to the movies. Since its that time of year I wanted to see a scary movie. Paranormal Activity 4 was my first choice but one of there persons accompanying me was not up for that type of comedy...I'm sorry horror. I laugh at these things and tend to think they are more comedic than funny. Unlike my previous movie reviews I will start with the summary first because I find that it must be made known. I also should have mentioned this before but I spare no words of spoilers so read at your own risk.

The movie opened up with a old style film rolling showing a family of four with sacks over their heads as they were hung by a tree. They weren't really dying until the tree began to get cut by this object that from what I saw was being used by no one. Needless to say they died horribly. As the movie progresses I find this family of four moving into this house and discover that the father is, of all things, a WRITER. He was in this forgetful city to write his next big hit book trying to recapture the fame and glory he got for a previous best seller called Kentucky Blood. As he's moving boxes in he heads to the attic and discovers a box of super 8 films and a super 8 player labeled home movies. Now at this point my first instinct would have been to turn the box in to the police and leave it at that, but then I suppose the movie would have came to abrupt end and I would have paid 19 bucks for me and my friend for nothing :(...However that was not the case and the father of the story was reviewing these tapes only to find someone has recorded themselves killing families. He would later come to know this entity as Mr. Boogie or some old pagan god who takes children and feeds on their souls, but after much research the father decides his book is not worth such occurrences, after all he did choose to move into the house of the killings.

Good:
The good thing I like about the movie is that it wasn't too fast and it wasn't too slow either. I remember telling myself "hmm it only took 30mins for the bullshit to start happening to this man and his family" then I laughed. I also loved the movie scores that I heard for it too. They were both attractive and captivating too even when  families were being killed. Yes Families were dying. I just love the music score and the fact that every time he got ready to watch a tape they went through this methodical sequence of events. It reminded me of the opening to the Batman Movies from the 90's where Batman would be shown picking out his gear.

The Bad:
Now every scary movie has that point where it makes you say to yourself, " YOU IDIOT I would have..." and this statement is followed up by a long list of back and forths between friends about what it is you or they or both you and they would have done, but my 'you idiot' moment came when Officer So and So called and ole dude just kept rejecting his phone call. I'm sorry but any OFFICER of the law that calls me after having asked their help on a case I would simply pick up the damn phone. I would at least stayed alive longer but I digress...I didn't really like the back talk between the mother and the son. I know my mother would have been slapped the taste from my mouth if I had done anything like that. I would have really had a night terror after talking back to my mother.

The Ugly:
I honestly think the ugliest part of this movie was near the end when the father found the 'Extended Ending' to each movie. It was kinda surreal because he saw what I had suspected the entire time; that the youngest child was killing the families. In each family the youngest child was committing the murders then disappearing with the ominous Mr. Boogie. I know the females with me that night swore not to have children ever in life after this movie. I don't blame them but at the same time I would not...actually I think I would be dumb enough to invite this kind of madness into my life however I wouldn't move into the damn house of murders lol.

Overall I enjoyed the movie for its music during certain scenes and the way they lead everything up to itself in a slow but gentle pace. I don't get scared watching horror movies but I will say Hollywood did a great job of picking a creep to do the killing. I give this move a B+ and totally recommend it to others for viewing after all who gets scared of something like this:

Marvel's The Avengers Review

So I had the chance to see Marvel’s Avengers this weekend because they showed it again in theaters for the Labor Day weekend. Before I go on I would like it to be known that I am a huge Marvel fan only because Marvel Characters go through so much more emotion trying to cope with their powers. That being said…This movie did not warrant the hype that it got during the original showing back in May. I say that because I was watching the movie and it had a great opening, Samuel makes a great Nick Fury and I love how he maintains control of everything even during the most stressful situations. Robert Downey Juniors character was as awesome as he was in the Iron Man Movies but the rest of the characters I shall discuss in the breakdown of THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY, and THE BEST

The Good:
The good part about this movie for me was the costume design. I’ve always loved Thor’s outfit with the bullet proof looking vest and cape (maybe I just love caped heroes). A lot of people told me they didn’t like Captain America’s Costume but I found it to be pretty basic and to the point, I also realized he would make a great Ultimate Frisbee player but that’s beside the point. Black Widow and Hawkeye’s costumes had little room for flare but being that they’re more stealth characters I can’t see them saving lives dressed as Ronald McDonald. Iron Man’s costume is something you wish you could change but then realize that no other color makes sense. I mean when I see Iron man I first ask myself which suit is he wearing because I just know he’s wearing a different version of the same suit, but you can’t get upset because with each upgrade the suit gets that much more magnificent. Finally I freakin loved Loki’s costume, but I’m not too keen on the bull looking helmet. I think it works better without it unless he’s gonna be ramming into anyone…or thing.

The Bad:
The bad part about this overrated movie, yes I said overrated, is the fact that one of the most useless characters was mind controlled practically the whole movie…ok maybe not the whole movie but seriously who takes control of a guy whose only real specialty is accuracy and precision. He’s no better than Batman without a utility belt or Green Arrow; in fact he is a Green arrow without the name GREEN ARROW. I understand the argument people might put up when I say that Wolverine and Spidey would have been better choices than Black Widow and Hawkeye but the fact remains that they aren’t all that special…period. You take away their gadgets and they are nothing more than humans without guns.

The Ugly:
The ugliest part of the movie which I can honestly say I will never get over is Agent Phil Coulson dying during the attack on S.H.E.I.L.D Headquarters. I never really thought they would put death into the movie so close to home for them but at the same time it works. I’ve always noticed the difference between death in the Marvel Universe and the DC Universe, and Characters in the Marvel Universe do a great job of feeling and resembling sorrow and grief when losing someone,  whether they’ve known them or not. I really felt like he should have lived on or that Fury would make his death off scene so as to galvanize the rest of his team into quickly shutting down Loki and his schemes.

The BEST:
The best part of the movie was sadly the only reputable part of it and that was the dramatically dragged out war between The Avengers and the Chitauri. I mean any super hero fight scene is going to be awesome but when the fight scene is your only saving grace then your movie kinda loses its uniqueness. I also liked Tom Hiddleston’s acting. It was exactly how I would expect a man obsessed with power and control to be. I mean as far as movie villains go in the Marvel Universe he is definitely one of the best I’ve seen in terms of how he has everything come together. Overall the movie was just as great as The Dark Knight Rises the only difference was that it was simply overrated to me and honestly it was over before it started; however, I believe that with the introduction of this Thanos character that maybe The Avengers can shine in a brand new way. I will forever feel as though Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Black Panther should have been in the movie from the start, but I have this cold feeling that even if they manage an Avengers 2 that they will not see any screen time other than a cameo at best.

The Dark Knight Rises Review

I'm not sure what to say right now you guys. This would probably be more epic if I were listening to the Soundtrack right now but we'll get to that one later. I must say of all the Batman movies I've seen, this one on a grading scale of S-F, S being Superb and F being Foolish, the Legacy left behind by Christopher Nolan and Christain Bale was simply fantastic. Overall I enjoyed the movie as it has earned its A rank grade but a few things I want to touch on that if changed could have not only made the movie better but also would open a plethora of doors for the DC Universe.

The Good:
Of Course Batman's return to crime fighting was a spectacular one in my opinion because I was curious to know how it was gonna be done. I half expected them to make it where he'd start small taking petty thugs off the street and leaving them in front of the GPD Building. But the look on his face was the same look I had on mine when the police gave chase to him as oppose to Bane after the stock exchange robbery. My thoughts were, " Ain't this some shit? I come back to save you ignorant pricks and you guys chase me instead of him?!" The I had to remember they thought he killed Gotham's White Knight.

Bane was even more spectacular as he was pulverizing The Bat. I loved how they did the fight scenes in the beginning and in the end. It really reminded me of the animated series when Batman first fought Bane except Robin wasn't in trouble. It also reminded me of the popular "The Batman" television series although I'd have been a little upset if this Batman had to build a strange robotic suit to face this Bane. Overall the fighting was awesome cause lets face it, while we all love seeing batman go bad ass on groups of thugs at one time we love for him to go ape shit on one man of equal if not overwhelming strength. This was a great match up movies wise and was something I would definitely love to see again!

The Bad:
Now I've no eye for acting talent but even I was disappointed at to see Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. I felt her Characters introduction was too easily thought out and finished in one day. I mean don't get me wrong when I saw her in the beginning I actually felt like she was a weak and helpless maid at a party until she changed her voice so I'm not saying she cant act but to me the fact that she's a Disney Movie actor doesn't make me or give me the same excitement as if it were some other woman. I guess I just have a hard time picturing her as a Catwoman of sorts. I will forever feel like someone else would have been better but ah what can you do?

The Strange:
Normally this would be the part where I talk about the UGLY of a movie but there was no ugly in this movie just a strange portion of time where Alfred being Bruce's Care taker up and leaves him. I thought that was the weirdest thing to happen in the movie because if you really wanted to support someone then seems like you'd stay by their side throughout the good and the bad. The other thing that kinda didn't sit right with me were the government officials who acted as well...government officials. I felt like they weren't necessary and that they could have been replaced with maybe say a shot of Superman seeing the struggling city of Gotham. And yes I'm aware its called The Dark Knight Rises but what better way to rise than to have friends help you pick yourself back up? Hmmm indeed lol.

The Best:
The best part and probably the most important part was the ending scenes when the Character John Blake used his real name, Robin to secure somethings left to him in Bruce's WILL, but I'll address that later. Formerly an officer in Gotham by the end of the events with Bane he gave up being a cop and from the ending montage of things we see him find the bat cave and all of us hope that he goes on to become the new face of that symbol that batman stood for. Even more so we see the bat signal has been replaced to Commissioner Gordon's surprise and even better than that we find good ole Alfred back on his vacation of sorts and from earlier he told Bruce a tale of how we thought he'd died and how he would take this trip to the same place every year and how he would imagine looking across the way to see a Bruce with a woman living happy and even more so children but on this particular time he see just Bruce with the ex cat burglar Selina Kyle. For those who don't know it was believed that he died saving the city from a bomb strong enough to wipe out the entire city but come on I mean its BATMAN. Gotham if not the world needs a Batman...

With that being said I think the ending was great but I also think that things could have been done in such a way to make a leap into the whole Justice League. First off I would totally have made John Blake Robin even in the end but I would make it noticeably so with his costume and what not then as far as the bomb I would have made sure a red and blue figure descended upon the scene to whisk it way in time to save Bats and Gotham and somewhere along the lines I'd have to pray the makers of the Man of Steel Movie would include a clip of him saving the city as he has become or would soon become Superman. I think that would have greatly setup the scene for a Justice League movie once Flash, Green Lantern 2 or a reboot with a black lantern, and Wonder Woman were done. I honestly believe that Wonder Woman would be the hardest to pull of. Even I don't know much about her life before leaving the shores of that island Themescara how ever you spell it lol.

this has been my review of The Dark Knight Rises. I'm Open to Ideas and comments on the movie and where you think the Batman Franchise should go on from there. Thanks you and enjoy.
